From Colombo or Negombo
We first drive to Pinnawela and visit the Elephant Orphanage. On the way to Kandy, we marvel at the beautiful landscape with its many tea plantations. Along the way, we can see how the world-famous Ceylon tea is produced at a tea factory. In Kandy, we visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth, where a tooth of Buddha is kept.
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
From Colombo to Galle
We set off early in the morning toward Udawalawe. At 9 a.m., we can watch the morning feeding of the baby elephants. They spend several years here until their release into the wild.
Before continuing on to Udawalawe National Park, known for its particularly large elephant population, we’ll take a tea break at a hotel. Upon arrival at our destination for the day, we’ll begin our jeep safari in the national park.
From Colombo to Bentota
Our journey takes us along the coast to the southern tip of Sri Lanka. On the way to Galle, we stop at a turtle farm. Here, we learn about the breeding of several species of rare sea turtles, from egg laying to release into the wild. Afterwards, we take a boat trip on the Madu River. We’ll have lunch on an island in the river.
We visit a coconut plantation and watch the production of traditional Todi (palm wine). After a short drive, we reach the city of Galle and visit its old town, the best-preserved Dutch fortress in Asia. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
From Colombo or Negombo
On the way to central Sri Lanka, we see numerous coconut and pineapple plantations. Arriving in Dambulla, we walk up to the Golden Rock Temple. Here we can
marvel at the five rock caves with countless Buddha statues and ceiling paintings.
After a short drive, we reach Sigiriya. We climb the famous Lion Rock with its magnificent frescoes of the “Cloud Maidens.” Further steep stairs lead us to the top of the rock, where we find the ruins of the palace, which once stretched over three floors. Somewhat out of breath, we marvel at the magnificent view.
In the late afternoon, we return to the hotel.
